It started with a band, a room full of people and an idea: use music to bring our community together for a cause that matters.
Charter Hall employees, customers, partners and friends packed out The Golden Sheaf in Sydney for Music to Mobilise, with our very own employee band, Off the CHarts, taking to the stage in support of We Are Mobilise.
By the end of the night, that support had turned into something much bigger. Together, we raised $130,001, which has already helped 42 people experiencing homelessness move towards safe, stable housing.
We Are Mobilise works with more than 50 charity partners across Australia to provide targeted financial support when it can make the biggest difference. That might mean covering rent, bond or the essentials someone needs to secure and maintain a home. Based on five years of research, data and real-world outcomes, every $3,000 raised can help one person move out of homelessness and into stable housing – for good.
For one mother and her 22-year-old son with severe special needs, that support arrived at a critical moment. After almost 20 years in their rental home, they were told the property was being sold. They found another home, but unexpected expenses had depleted their savings and left them without the money they needed to secure it. After exhausting other options, they were facing the very real prospect of having nowhere to go.
$3,000 from the funds raised through Music to Mobilise helped them take up their new home.
Their story is one of more than 40 made possible through the night. What began with our community coming together for music has translated into practical support for people at a moment when it matters most.
At a time when cost-of-living pressures and housing affordability are putting more Australians under strain, supporting vulnerable people and helping address homelessness and housing insecurity is an important part of our approach to community impact. Music to Mobilise also reflects our ambition to broaden that impact, creating more opportunities for our people, customers and partners to get involved and make a difference together.
