Charter Hall today announced the appointment of Ben Ellis to the role of Head of Capital Transactions.

Mr Ellis will manage Charter Hall’s Capital Transactions team that oversees all of Charter Hall’s acquisitions and divestments across the office, retail, industrial and social infrastructure sectors. The capital transactions team has transacted more than $10 billion of property in Australia since July 2017.

Mr Ellis has been with the enlarged Charter Hall Group for nearly 18 years, initially commencing with Macquarie’s retail REIT, CountryWide, since 2001 and then joining the Charter Hall platform in 2010 following Charter Hall’s acquisition of Macquarie’s real estate management platform, at which time he took over the Group’s wholesale long WALE and shopping centre retail funds activity. Ben has extensive funds management and broad real estate experience and has forged deep relationships with both major tenant customers and investors.

Charter Hall’s Managing Director and Group CEO, David Harrison said: “Ben has played a significant role in the growth of our long WALE and retail sectors and has formed strong ongoing relationships with key investor and tenant customers resulting in numerous major portfolio acquisitions with Bunnings and ALH. We look forward to Ben harnessing his strong relationship skills in building broader intermediary and key customer networks within the Capital Transactions team, continuing to grow our participation with major corporates in sale & leaseback activity and working with our fund managers to successfully curate their portfolios through strategic acquisitions and divestments.”

“With one of the largest transaction teams in Australia including 11 experienced Transaction Manager specialists across all major sectors, we look forward to Ben and the whole team continuing the momentum of recent years” said Mr Harrison.

Mr Ellis said: “Charter Hall has a long track record of successfully matching capital sourced across its listed, wholesale and direct platforms with quality real estate transactions. I am looking forward to taking on a role where I can use my expertise in assisting Charter Hall to continue to provide high quality investment opportunities for its investor customers.”

This appointment is the result of a recruitment process that searched the external market and considered our internal succession plans to identify the best talent for this critical role.

“We are delighted that we have been able to fill the Head of Capital Transactions internally. This appointment demonstrates the possibilities that our integrated operating model and business scale presents for those passionate about building a career with us.

“Additionally, this has created the opportunity for Simon Young to be promoted from Deputy to Fund Manager within our retail wholesale funds management business reporting to Retail CEO Greg Chubb. Simon has been with the Group for 9 years across both industrial and retail sectors and we expect this seamless transition will continue the delivery of our services to these investor customers” said Mr Harrison.
