Andrew McConnell to open new restaurant at 171 Collins Street

Further solidifying 171 Collins Street as Melbourne's most premium office address, Andrew McConnell will open his next restaurant within the building in early 2014.

In a major coup for 171 Collins Street joint venture partners Cbus Property and Charter Hall Office Trust, McConnell will open his new venture in the Flinders Lane tenancy of the building.

Designed by Melbourne architectural firm Projects of Imagination, the restaurant will be the ideal meeting and watching place, punctuated by aspects of Flinders Lane. The dining area will include an open plan kitchen visible from the restaurant that forms a prominent part of the restaurant's theatre and energy.

McConnell currently owns and operates four award winning restaurants in Melbourne. Cumulus Inc. has won a coveted chef's hat in The Age Good Food Guide for four consecutive years and inspired McConnell's first cookbook; his Gertrude Street restaurant Cutler & Co. Dining Room has maintained two chef's hats since 2009 and won a number of prestigious awards including Gourmet Traveller Restaurant of the Year in 2011; Golden Fields in St Kilda received immediate recognition on opening in 2011, including The Age Good Food Guide Best New Restaurant along with one chef's hat; and his most recent venture, Moon Under Water, won Hottest Victorian restaurant in The Australian Hot 50 restaurant awards, as well as a chef's hat in The Age Good Food Guide.

McConnell is one of Melbourne's most outstanding, award winning chefs and restaurateurs, having twice won the title of Chef of the Year in The Age Good Food Guide, and Hottest Chef of the Year in The Australian Hot 50 awards in 2012. His modern culinary style, professional approach and handcrafted design ethos is a perfect fit for 171 Collins Street.

Whilst the restaurant details are yet to be confirmed, the food will offer McConnell's signature style of modern, considered and approachable food with a focus on quality, fresh produce.

McConnell said, "I am looking forward to opening my new venture in such a beautifully designed and high calibre building, on one of Melbourne's best laneways. I know I will be in good company at 171 Collins Street."

Construction on 171 Collins Street is complete and current confirmed high calibre office tenants include BHP Billiton, Evans & Partners and Egon Zehnder International. International fashion retailer Dolce & Gabbana is also scheduled to open their first flagship Australian store at 171 Collins Street in August this year.

High quality, contiguous office space is still available and negotiations are proceeding with several high profile prospective tenants.

Cbus Property and Charter Hall formed a 50:50 Joint Venture in March 2010 to jointly market, lease and develop the project with a long term strategy to own and manage the building. The joint venture combines Charter Hall and Cbus Property's complementary development capabilities as well as a strong track record in leasing and asset management.
