WorkZone celebrates ‘topping out’
Charter Hall has 'topped out' Perth's newest A-grade commercial office development, WorkZone, by completing the last of the concrete slab pours to the twin buildings this week.
Over 300 construction workers and project members have been involved in reaching this important milestone, and with construction works now turning to the installation of the façade and the integrated fitout services, the project is on track for completion in September 2013.
WorkZone has also secured local artist, Simon Gilby, to undertake the public artwork for the development. Mr Gilby has completed a number of well-known works around Perth and his new artwork for the project will be revealed closer to completion of the buildings.
Charter Hall’s Development Manager, Simon Hulett, said: “Charter Hall is very pleased to share this milestone event with our head contractor, Broad Construction Services, our anchor tenant Leighton Contractors, our charity partner HeartKids WA, and the entire project team. The project is currently tracking on time and budget which is a testament to the hard work of the whole team.
“We believe WorkZone will be an important element in the evolving gentrification of Perth’s CBD fringe, and it is exciting to see this unique A-grade office campus taking shape,” he added.
Offering over 27,000 square metres of high quality office accommodation, WorkZone has been specially designed to accommodate the growing needs of tenants, providing large, flexible, efficient floors across two campus style office buildings, with excellent internal connections and ample end-of-journey facilities for its occupants.
Leighton Contractors has committed to 76% of the two buildings, with Charter Hall’s leasing team speaking with a number of prospective tenants on the remaining 6,500 square metres of office space and 265 square metres of ground floor retail space.
Broad General Manager – Building WA, Peter Moore, said: “The WorkZone topping out ceremony is a momentous occasion for the entire team that reflects the 150,000 man hours worked to date, as well as the pouring of 20,000 square metre of concrete and 380 tonnes of structural steel used on the project. Broad’s commitment to health and safety has resulted in excellent safety performance and we will continue to strive towards our vision of zero harm in the workplace.
“We are very excited to be delivering what will be our new West Australian Head office for Leighton Contractors and Broad team. The building is already a prominent feature in the area and once completed will be a superior commercial office development on the fringe of the Perth CBD,” he added.
WorkZone is targeting 5 Star Green Star Office As-Built V3 and 5 Star NABERS Energy base building ratings.
WorkZone is owned by Charter Hall Opportunity Fund No.5 and is being built by Broad Construction Services (WA) Pty Ltd.
